Additional Program Information

The goal of Eldercare Mediation is for families to communicate with each other and evaluate the best options for the care of their elderly adult family members. It can help you to develop a written plan (that the mediator will draft) to summarize the issues and solutions that you reach in mediation. Mediation can help resolve issues without having to go to court to settle disputes. It is particularly helpful when geographic distances make it harder to communicate.

Guardianship is the legal process where one of more persons seek the court’s appointment to manage personal or financial affairs of another. These affairs include managing property, accounts, and making medical decisions for a minor or an incapacitated adult. A court may grant a guardianship when it finds that a minor or incapacitated adult is incapable of managing his or her own personal or financial affairs and there is no less restrictive alternative available.
